The community safe room at Horn Lake Elementary School, located at 6341 Ridgewood in Horn Lake, was open during a tornado watch, according to local officials.
The tornado threat has since lessened, and the tornado watch was canceled, prompting the safe rooms to close, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office reported Tuesday evening.
Earlier in the day, multiple community safe rooms across DeSoto County opened to the public as a precaution. Locations included the Southaven Community Safe Room at 7312 Highway 51N, Southaven; Horn Lake Elementary; Lewisburg Elementary at 1717 Craft Road, Olive Branch; Walls Elementary at 6131 Delta View Road, Walls; and Olive Branch Elementary at 9549 Pigeon Roost, Olive Branch.
Officials advised residents to stay tuned for updates and to follow safety instructions during severe weather alerts.
