Hernando outlasted Center Hill 41–35 in double overtime Friday, Sept. 18, handing the Mustangs their first football loss, while Lewisburg opened the Mid-South Classic with two volleyball sweeps.
The Tigers and Mustangs were tied 28–28 after regulation and 35–35 after the first overtime. Hernando scored six points on the opening possession of the second overtime, missed a two-point try and held on for the road victory. Both teams finished the night 3–1. Football: Gators shut out Horn Lake
Lake Cormorant won the county’s other head-to-head football matchup, 17–0 at Horn Lake. DeSoto Central beat PURE Academy 49–14 in a game played at Rhodes College in Memphis.
Northpoint Christian turned a 6–3 halftime deficit into an 18–12 homecoming win over Mitchell. The school’s athletics account reported both the halftime score and the final.
Lewisburg fell 63–35 at Lafayette, despite five rushing touchdowns by sophomore quarterback Kaysen Wiggins. His game statistics credited him with 183 yards on 12 carries and 173 passing yards on 8-of-20 passing. Collin Moore caught three passes for 94 yards. Lafayette led 49–21 at halftime.
Lewisburg beat Bartlett 25–23, 25–16, then swept Evangelical Christian 25–18, 25–16. The Patriots’ official final-score graphic confirmed the second victory and a two-win opening day of the Mid-South Classic.
DeSoto Central lost 25–21, 29–27 to Bartlett, with the second set extending beyond the usual 25-point target before the Panthers completed the sweep.
Lake Cormorant split its Friday tournament matches. New Hope won the opener 25–17, 23–25, 15–11. Kinsley Stevens had 11 kills and nine digs for the Gators; Micayiah Thompson added 12 digs and Kayla Gonzalez had 11 assists. Lake Cormorant then beat St. Patrick, according to the team’s official report; the match score and set totals were not posted.
Northpoint’s Sept. 17 girls soccer match against St. George’s remains result not yet reported. Earlier unresolved results remain under review for future dated late reports.
