DeSoto Central scores 48 at Lewisburg; Center Hill wins region opener

DeSoto Central opened region play with a 48–3 victory at Lewisburg, while Center Hill won 28–14 at Grenada in boys varsity football Friday, Oct. 9. Tupelo shut out Southaven 42–0. Two newly verified Northpoint Christian volleyball playoff wins from earlier in the week are also included below with their actual match dates.
Football: Jaguars build a 35–3 halftime lead
DeSoto Central defeated Lewisburg 48–3 in the county matchup. The Jaguars scored 14 points in the first quarter and 21 in the second, taking a 35–3 lead into halftime. They added 13 points in the third quarter; neither team scored in the fourth.
Lewisburg quarterback Kaysen Wiggins completed seven of 17 passes for 76 yards with two interceptions. Jayden Snow rushed for 49 yards on eight carries, and Will Butler caught four passes for 39 yards. DeSoto Central improved to 5–1 overall and 1–0 in region play; Lewisburg fell to 2–4 and 0–1.
Center Hill beat Grenada 28–14 on the road in its region opener, moving to 5–1 overall. The Mustangs next host Lake Cormorant on Friday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. Mississippi time.
Southaven lost 42–0 to visiting Tupelo. The Golden Wave scored 21 points in the first quarter, 14 in the second and seven in the third. Southaven’s posted record is 1–4 overall and 0–1 in region play.
The next Friday slate includes DeSoto Central hosting Horn Lake and Lewisburg hosting Southaven, both Oct. 16 at 7 p.m. Those games give the Jaguars a second region test and the Patriots and Chargers their next opportunity for a region win.
Late results: Northpoint’s October 5 and 6 volleyball sweeps
Northpoint’s girls varsity team swept visiting St. George’s 3–0 on Monday, Oct. 5, winning 25–10, 25–17 and 25–14. Josey Jones and Leah Kirkpatrick each recorded 11 kills, and Kirkpatrick added four total blocks. The Trojans finished with 35 kills and 48 digs.
On Tuesday, Oct. 6, Northpoint won 3–0 at Evangelical Christian in Cordova, Tennessee. The set scores were 25–13, 32–30 and 25–20. Chistiana Nolan led Northpoint with 20 kills; Kirkpatrick had three total blocks. Northpoint’s match totals included 42 kills, nine aces, 65 digs and 37 assists. Both wins were playoff matches.

Olive Branch’s Friday football game at Saltillo is “result not yet reported.” Northpoint–Overton girls soccer on Oct. 1, county varsity finishes at the Oct. 3 Frank Horton cross-country meet, and earlier Lewisburg girls golf and DeSoto Central swimming results remain unverified.
