Southaven Aldermen Nov. 3 Agenda: Tennis, Training Facility

The Southaven aldermen Nov. 3 agenda includes design task orders for the city’s planned indoor tennis facility and a new fire and police training facility, plus bids for signs at Snowden Grove and a contract for a Southaven Police Department generator project. The Mayor and Board of Aldermen meet at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 3, at City Hall, the same evening polls close in DeSoto County’s midterm election.

The agenda has 22 items. Here is what residents can expect.

Southaven Aldermen Nov. 3 Agenda: Parks and Public Safety Projects

Several items involve projects the city has already announced or started:

  • Indoor Tennis Facility Task Orders: The board will consider task orders tied to the indoor tennis center planned next to the Snowden Grove Tennis Complex. Earlier this year, the city said UrbanArch Associates was designing the facility, with 8 to 10 indoor courts, offices, a pro shop, concessions, locker rooms, and elevated seating for spectators. Construction was expected to begin once design and bidding are complete, likely in early 2027.
  • UrbanARCH Contract Renewal: A separate item renews the city’s contract with the architecture firm.
  • Fire and Police Training Facility Task Order: The agenda lists a task order for a fire and police training facility. The agenda doesn’t give the project’s details or cost.
  • Snowden Grove Sign Bids: Aldermen will review bids for signs at the Snowden Grove park complex.
  • Resolution for Sole Source Purchase: A sole-source purchase for the Parks Department.

Police Generator Contract and Utilities Items

At its Oct. 20 meeting, the board awarded the bid for the SPD Generator Modification Project to OSB Service. Tuesday’s agenda includes the follow-up contract with OSB Services for the SPD generator project.

Other business items include:

  • An appointment to the DeSoto County Regional Utility Authority (DCRUA) board, which oversees regional wastewater service
  • Planning Commission appointments
  • A landscape maintenance revision
  • A resolution declaring utilities equipment surplus
  • A resolution to clean private property
  • The planning agenda

Reports, Dockets and Executive Session

The meeting also includes Mayor Darren Musselwhite’s report, the personnel docket, the city attorney’s legal update, the utilities billing leak adjustment docket, and the claims docket. It ends with a closed executive session on potential and pending litigation against the city, economic development, and interdepartmental personnel matters. The agenda notes that no action is expected from the session.

The agenda also notes that items may be added or removed as needed.

How to Attend

Board of Aldermen meetings are open to the public and are held at Southaven City Hall in the Southaven Municipal Complex, 8710 Northwest Drive.
