Captain Jason Oliveria of the Accreditation, Training and Public Relations Division opened the session with command staff biographies, the department said.
Officer Brik Waldrop, a defensive tactics instructor, demonstrated techniques for officers and civilians and explained limitations on the use of force, the department said.
Retired crossing guard Ronetta Colvin discussed the history and duties of crossing guards, and Animal Control Officers Niki Biffle and Ashley Daniel encouraged participants to consider adopting shelter animals. The department said attendees toured the new Animal Control building and interacted with animals housed there.
