Dangerous Mississippi heat to continue through early next week

Forecasters say dangerous heat will persist across Mississippi through early next week, with heat indices reaching as high as 115 degrees Fahrenheit in some areas.

The most hazardous conditions are expected from late morning into the afternoon each day, forecasters said. Officials urged residents to limit prolonged outdoor activity during those hours.

Authorities advised people to drink plenty of water, stay hydrated and learn the signs of heat-related illness. They also recommended taking frequent breaks in cool or shaded areas for anyone who must be outside.

Officials warned never to leave children, older adults or pets unattended in a vehicle and encouraged residents to check on family, friends and neighbors. Officials said heat can become dangerous quickly.
