Memphis woman dies in highway crash

A Memphis woman has died after a one-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 78/I-22 early Tuesday morning. 

The DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department reports the accident took place about 3:30 a.m. when deputies were called near the Red Banks exit. A box truck and overturned and the driver was pronounced dead. Fire and EMS made the scene. The investigation into the accident is ongoing, the Sheriff’s Department reported. 

DeSoto County Coroner Josh Pounders later identified the fatal victim as April Johnson, age 47 of Memphis.  

Eastbound traffic on the highway was at first blocked and later restricted to one lane between the Bethel Road exit and Ingrams Mill exit as the investigation and clean up continued Tuesday morning. The roadway was reopened completely around 12 noon.
