The Southaven Police Department is accepting applications for its 2027 Citizens Police Academy, a free program for citizens of DeSoto County that offers a behind-the-scenes look at police operations, according to information posted by the department.
The course will include classroom instruction, facility tours, live demonstrations and hands-on scenarios. Participants can learn about criminal investigations and watch demonstrations by SWAT and K-9 teams, as well as ride with a driving instructor on an obstacle course.
Classes are scheduled every Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 7, 2027. Applications are available online through the Southaven Police Department website or in person at 8691 Northwest Drive in Southaven, Mississippi, 38671.
