Southaven firefighters join Special Olympics Torch Run

Southaven Fire Department said it helped carry the torch in the Special Olympics Torch Run on Tuesday, taking part in the event as first responders and athletes moved the symbol of the games through the city.

The department said the run began at Fire Station No. 2 at Swinnea and Rasco and that the torch was passed on at City Hall on Northwest Drive.

The department said the annual event raises money for the Special Olympics and that first responders and Special Olympics athletes carry the “Flame of Hope” into the opening ceremonies of the Special Olympic Games.

The department said it considers participating an honor and shared photos of the morning’s activities on its social media post.
