8-year-old completes Special Olympics Torch Run with Olive Branch officer, police say
An 8-year-old completed a Special Olympics Torch Run 5K alongside an Olive Branch police officer Saturday in Byhalia, Mississippi, the Olive Branch Police Department said.
The department said Officer John Turner represented the Olive Branch Police Department and ran to support Special Olympics athletes. The post identified the boy as Troy Smith and said he completed the entire 5K without quitting.
The department’s social media post listed bib numbers, identifying Smith as No. 29 and Turner as No. 65, and described Smith’s determination and dedication as inspiring, the post said.
The department’s post also tagged Olive Branch Mayor Ken Adams and Special Olympics Mississippi, the Olive Branch Police Department said.
