Daylight saving time ends Sunday, Nov. 1, at 2 a.m., and the Southaven Fire Department is reminding residents to use the clock change as an opportunity to check their smoke alarms.
The department advises pressing the test button to make sure every alarm is working. Residents should replace batteries if their alarms use replaceable batteries and check the manufacture date, because smoke alarms should be replaced every 10 years.
Smoke alarms with sealed 10-year batteries do not need annual battery changes, according to the department.
