Olive Branch says it does not designate Halloween trick-or-treating date

The City of Olive Branch said Halloween is observed annually on Oct. 31 and falls on a Saturday this year, but the city does not designate a date or time for Halloween or trick-or-treating. Some neighborhoods reschedule their Halloween activities, and residents should verify dates with their neighborhood associations, the city said.

The city’s Community Trunk-or-Treat is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 29, from 6 to 8 p.m. in Old Towne. The annual event includes trick-or-treating with Old Towne businesses, food trucks, inflatables, crafts and a showing of “Goosebumps” as part of the Movies Under the Stars series. The movie starts at 7 p.m.

The city said porch lights can indicate that candy is being distributed, while residents who are not participating can leave their lights off. It also advised trick-or-treaters to wear bright or highly visible costumes, or use glow sticks or flashlights, travel in groups and use sidewalks when available. Drivers should use extra caution and drive slowly through residential areas on Halloween night.

The city also noted that area churches and businesses host their own Trunk-or-Treat events or fall festivals.
