Olive Branch officer Michael Murphy promoted to K-9 sergeant
Michael Murphy has been promoted to K-9 sergeant with the Olive Branch Police Department and was recognized by Mayor Ken Adams, the Olive Branch Board of Aldermen and Police Chief Carlos E. Garcia, according to a department announcement.
Murphy was born in Memphis, Tennessee, and raised in Columbus, Mississippi. He moved to Olive Branch in 1999 and has continued to call the community home. He graduated from Olive Branch High School in 2004 and from the Mississippi Law Enforcement Academy in November 2006.
During his law enforcement career, Murphy has served as a field training officer, narcotics agent and K-9 handler. He completed the Houston K-9 Academy trainer’s course in July 2023.
Murphy returned to the Olive Branch Police Department in 2024, bringing nearly two decades of law enforcement experience back to the community. The department said he plans to expand his leadership while continuing community service and public safety work.
