New principals named for DeSoto County Schools

DeSoto County Schools Thursday, May 4 announced the hiring of new lead administrators for schools in the state’s largest school district, beginning with the 2023-2024 school year. In addition, the district announced transfers of principals from one school to another for the upcoming school year.  

The moves in school principals were announced during the district’s school board meeting Thursday afternoon.  

New principal hires are as follows: 

  • Amy Cobb (Greenbrook Elementary School). Mrs. Cobb currently serves as an assistant principal at Walls Elementary School.
  • Nathan Hickerson (Lake Cormorant Elementary School). Mr. Hickerson currently serves as an assistant principal at Lake Cormorant Elementary School.
  • Kim Bridges (Lewisburg Primary School). Mrs. Bridges currently serves as an assistant principal at Lewisburg Primary School. 
  • Nick Eddlemon (Olive Branch Middle School). Mr. Eddlemon currently serves as an assistant principal at Horn Lake Middle School.

“We are very fortunate in DeSoto County to have such a qualified pool of administrative candidates within our own school district, and the principal interview committee did an outstanding job of evaluating all of the applicants,” said DCS Supt. Cory Uselton. “The results of the interviews were very encouraging.  Not only will we have outstanding new principals in place for next school year, we also have an amazing group of future principals within the ranks of our current assistant principals.  I am very excited about our talent pool of administrators.”

Administrator transfers for 2023-2024 school year are as follows:

  • Michelle Corbin from Overpark Elementary School to Lewisburg Intermediate School.
  • Helen Wright from Greenbrook Elementary School to Overpark Elementary School. Mrs. Wright previously served at Overpark Elementary School as both a teacher and as an assistant principal.
  • April Rucker from Lake Cormorant Elementary School to Southaven Intermediate School.  Mrs. Rucker had previously served as an assistant principal at Southaven Intermediate School.
