Olive Branch planning commission approves DeSoto County Schools’ Career Tech East site
The Olive Branch Planning Commission voted to approve DeSoto County Schools’ application for a new Career Tech East campus to be built on Craft Road just north of Church Road, city officials said.
The site is planned just west of the Olive Branch Soccer Fields at the George Harrison Soccer Complex and adjacent to the Lick Creek Conservancy, the announcement said. The school district’s application describes the facility as featuring modern classrooms, tennis courts and a track.
City officials said construction is already underway on a wide walking and biking trail that will connect the new soccer complex west to Ross Road South, with future plans to extend the trail east to Craft Road and north to the Career Tech East campus to create a continuous recreational and access corridor.
The announcement thanked the DeSoto County School Board and Superintendent Cory Uselton and said DeSoto County Schools is working to attract a college or university partner to locate adjacent to the site, which officials said could allow high school juniors and seniors to pursue career-focused training alongside collegiate coursework. Officials said the development, anchored by the 48-acre Lick Creek green space, is expected to have a lasting impact on Olive Branch.
