McNary: Transformative power of decluttering, by letting things go

By Loretta McNary

Are you currently feeling overwhelmed by the presence of clutter in your life? Does the thought of having a serene, meticulously organized living or working space, where each item serves a purpose and has a designed place, appeal to you? If you answered yes to either of the questions, it’s time to embark on the game-changing journey of decluttering. Imagine a space at your home and at work, where everything has a purpose, and a designated spot for every item.

Decluttering is not merely about tidying things up around you: it signifies a voyage of self-discovery. It involves shedding emotional baggage, liberating oneself from the constraints of the past, and fully embracing the present. As you sift through your belongings, you will confront your attachments, and build the courage to bid farewell to things that no longer contribute to your well-being.

For years I have asked myself, which comes first, the clutter in our homes, cars, and office; or does mental clutter happen first which can cause the physical clutter? If anyone knows the answer to this perplexing question, please let me know.

The perks of decluttering extend beyond a visually appealing space. A clutter-free environment holds the potential to enhance mental well-being by alleviating stress, anxiety, and feeling overwhelmed. It can also be an incentive for increased productivity, increasing your ability to concentrate and locate things effortlessly. Let’s not forget the bonus, the practice of decluttering can save both time and money by reducing unnecessary spending thus minimizing waste.

I recommend starting this transformative process with baby steps – address one area at a time. Why not make it fun, by inviting a friend or family member to join you, turning the task into a collaborative and enjoyable experience. Or if you are like me, putting on some “oldies but goodies” on my Pandora playlist, helps me finish a task effortlessly. As you make progress, you’ll find yourself gaining momentum, building confidence, and enjoying a sense of accomplishment.

Remember, every item you choose to release represents a burden lifted from your shoulders, creating space for new experiences, relationships, and happiness. Embrace the decluttering journey, and you’ll uncover the sheer joy of living with less – more physical space, mental clarity, and the freedom to live your best life.

So, what’s stopping you from taking that important first step? Today is a good day to begin your decluttering journey. Prepare to be astounded by the liberating sensation of letting go of the past and fully welcoming your new normal with open arms. You won’t believe how freeing it is to bid farewell to the past and embrace the present wholeheartedly, until you decide enough is enough and take the first step.

Embrace the journey of decluttering and discover the joy of living with less stuff in your space. You’ll find that less clutter is indeed more — more clarity, more peace, and more inspiration to conquer each day to strength and gratitude.

And once you have completed the task at hand, celebrate your victory, in your new clutter free space. Your organized space is not only radiating calmness, beauty and bliss, but it is also setting the stage for a fresh start for the new year! Cheers to you for letting go of things that used to cause stress and fatigue.
