Jerry Lee Lewis statue to be placed at Silo Square

Silo Square has announced that a life size statue of a legendary entertainer and DeSoto County resident will soon be placed. At the same time, a memorial scholarship will be offered in the name of the entertainer, the one and only Jerry Lee Lewis.

The statue of “The Killer” will welcome patrons to the soon-to-be opened Lucky Dog Music Hall and Bar, located at Silo Square. It is expected the statue will be unveiled in the fall of 2024.

The statue and scholarship comes with the blessing of Jerry Lee and his family prior to his passing at his ranch in Nesbit on Oct. 28, 2022.

The Jerry Lee Lewis Statue and Scholarship is made possible by F&F Construction, other businesses, and the Delta Regional Foundation.

Notable accomplishments throughout Jerry Lee’s musical career included his induction into both the Rock-N-Roll and Country Music Hall of Fame, being a regular on the Billboard country charts, and being part of the famous Million Dollar Quartet, along with Elvis Presley, Carl Perkins and Johnny Cash.

On Tuesday, Aug. 29, a check was presented from the Delta Regional Foundation to Southaven Mayor Darren Musselwhite at the future home of the life-size statue.

Additional dollars raised will establish and benefit a musical education scholarship at the Community Foundation of Northwest Mississippi for aspiring musicians from DeSoto County looking to major in music and musical education majors at a higher education institution.

Sponsorships are still available for individuals and small & large businesses and those interested in sponsorships are asked to contact Leah Brigance at Silo Square, leah@silosquarems.com
