A Democratic committee has tabbed a DeSoto County legislative race as a “must-watch” race in the November general elections. In doing so, the national committee looks to promote its candidate for the state Legislature.
Current Republican state Rep. Jeff Hale (R-Nesbit) is facing Democratic challenger David Olds of Olive Branch for the House District 24 seat in November.
Wednesday, Sept. 27, the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee (DLCC) issued a release stating that particular race is one of its “must-watch” races in the Nov. 7 general election.
The DLCC is the official committee charged with electing Democrats to state legislatures across the country. Each year, the DLCC selects strong candidates running in critical races to highlight as “Spotlight Races” in an effort to raise awareness and resources for candidates.
“Last year, the DLCC led state Democrats to have the most successful midterm election year for the president’s party in nearly a century and we are continuing our momentum in 2023. We are proud to include Mr. Olds on our growing list of amazing candidates who are committed to making a difference in their communities. On to Nov. 7,” said interim DLCC President Heather Williams in the news release.
“I am extremely pleased and excited with the endorsement,” said Olds. “It emphasizes the importance of issues that I support such as 100 percent funding of public schools based on MAEP standards and to include special needs students, expanding healthcare and support for law enforcement with more training and gap time pay.”
