Smith sets two Lewisburg swim records; DeSoto Central rallies past Hernando

Anderson Smith broke two Lewisburg swimming records Tuesday, while DeSoto Central rallied past Hernando in four sets to lead a busy Sept. 15 varsity sports slate across DeSoto County.
Smith won the boys 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle at the Pac the TAC meet in Tupelo, setting school records in both events, according to Lewisburg’s swim team. Record times were not posted in the team’s report.
Swimming
Lewisburg also won both 400 freestyle relays. Jake Stock, Logan Clay, Cole Walker and Smith made up the boys quartet; Quinlan Campbell, Aubrey Hood, Addi Black and Emma Hood swam for the girls. The girls added a 200 freestyle relay victory, while the boys placed second in that event. Lewisburg’s girls medley relay finished third and the boys sixth.
Stock won the boys 200 freestyle, Clay won the 500 freestyle and Campbell won the girls 200 freestyle. Campbell also finished second in the 50 freestyle. Emma Hood was second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 200 individual medley; Black placed second in the 100 freestyle. Evie Evans finished second in the 500 freestyle and fourth in the 200 freestyle, and Aubrey Hood was fifth in the 100 backstroke.
Among the boys, Dylan Johnson finished fourth in the 200 freestyle and tied for fifth in the 100 butterfly. Clay placed fourth in the 200 individual medley. Stock and Walker finished fifth and sixth in the 50 freestyle, respectively, and Walker added fifth in the 100 freestyle. Overall team standings were not yet reported in the team’s meet updates.
Volleyball
DeSoto Central dropped the opening set to visiting Hernando before winning the next three, 19–25, 25–19, 25–23, 25–23. The 3–1 victory moved the Jaguars to 12–9; Hernando fell to 14–8.
Southaven won the other county matchup, beating visiting Horn Lake 25–19, 25–12, 23–25, 25–19. The Chargers improved to 5–8, while the Eagles slipped to 3–14.
Lewisburg swept host Tupelo 25–20, 25–22, 25–11, improving to 19–7 overall and 6–1 in district play.
Center Hill remained unbeaten in district play at 7–0 with a 25–16, 25–12, 25–21 sweep at Grenada. Olive Branch defeated visiting South Panola 3–0; individual set scores were not posted.
Lake Cormorant won at Saltillo 25–20, 25–10, 18–25, 26–24. Laylie Moore supplied 14 kills and 19 digs, and Micayiah Thompson had 23 digs. The Gators recorded 17 aces and improved to 6–2 in district play.
Northpoint Christian lost at home to Collierville 17–25, 25–18, 18–25, 18–25, leaving the Trojans 18–3.
Girls soccer
Northpoint lost 9–0 at Evangelical Christian in Cordova, Tennessee. The Trojans’ record stood at 4–5 after the district match.
Late result: Sept. 14
Northpoint’s Monday volleyball result is now reported: a 25–12, 21–25, 25–18, 25–16 victory at Jackson Christian. The Trojans totaled 42 kills, 13 aces and 68 digs.

Center Hill’s calendar listed Extreme Archery–North Half for Sept. 15: result not yet reported; varsity classification also remains unconfirmed. Results remain unreported for Center Hill’s Sept. 14 golf event at Mallard Pointe and Lewisburg’s Sept. 14 boys Oxford Invitational and girls Big Blue Classic golf events.
