Lewisburg beats DeSoto Central in four sets; Center Hill, Hernando sweep

Lewisburg turned back DeSoto Central in four sets Thursday, Sept. 17, while Center Hill and Hernando earned sweeps in an evening of county varsity volleyball matchups.
The Patriots won 25–12, 25–22, 12–25, 25–20 at Lewisburg. DeSoto Central extended the match with a decisive third-set victory, but Lewisburg recovered in the fourth to finish the 3–1 win, according to the team’s final-score report.
After the teams traded 25–12 sets in the first and third, the closer second and fourth sets both went to the Patriots. Lewisburg’s three-point margin in the second gave it a two-set lead before the Jaguars answered.
Center Hill, Hernando close in three
Center Hill defeated visiting Olive Branch 25–21, 25–19, 25–14. The Mustangs’ four-point opening-set win was the closest of the match; they increased the margin in each succeeding set to complete the 3–0 result. The school’s set-by-set updates and MaxPreps final agreed on all three scores.
Hernando won at Lake Cormorant 25–19, 25–17, 25–19. The Tigers kept the Gators below 20 points in each set, taking the second by eight points between matching six-point margins in the first and third.
Lake Cormorant’s Laylie Moore recorded 11 kills, three aces and nine digs. Micayiah Thompson had 13 digs, and Kayla Gonzalez contributed 11 assists and eight digs in the match statistics. The Gators finished with 20 kills and 59 digs.

DeSoto Central also announced a Thursday nine-hole golf event at Timber Truss for its golf teams. The school announcement did not identify opponents or team levels; result not yet reported.

Two county pairings lead the Sept. 18 schedule: Hernando at Center Hill and Lake Cormorant at Horn Lake. Lewisburg visits Lafayette, DeSoto Central travels to PURE Academy and Olive Branch plays at Kosciusko. Southaven hosts Whitehaven, and Northpoint hosts Mitchell. All seven games are listed for 7 p.m. Mississippi time.
