Saturday sports: No-hitters dot the baseball schedule

Northpoint Christian claimed a 10-1 non-district win over North Delta on Saturday afternoon in the first game of a pair of five-inning contests at Northpoint. 

The Trojans broke the contest open with a five-run fourth inning after North Delta scored its only run in the top half of the frame.  

Sammy Chapman, Rob Hayes and JB Williams each scored a pair of runs for Northpoint. Williams and Chapman each had a pair of hits and Hudson Brown drove in three runs. 

Williams and KL Farr each hit triples and Chapman and Hayes each collected doubles for Northpoint.  

The Trojans scored two runs in the first inning and three more in the third before the five-run outburst to put the game away.  

Pitcher Justin Hall allowed four hits and one run over four innings on the mound. Hall struck out three and walked one. Farr came in to pitch the final inning.  

Northpoint took the second game of an afternoon doubleheader with a 2-0 victory over North Delta.

The Trojans scored single runs in the second and third innings to take the contest behind the no-hit pitching of Jace Robinson, who struck out two. 

Northpoint improved to 14-1-1 with the victories.  

Elsewhere on Saturday, Hernando took away an easy 16-0 victory from Germantown (Tenn.) in three innings. The 19-4 Tigers plated nine runs in the second inning and seven more in the third. 

Five separate players came home twice in the contest for Hernando and Cade Koczka had three hits, all singles.  Hayden Carlini drove in four runs for Hernando in support of winning pitcher Preston Johnson, who struck out five Red Devils and walked one in a combined no-hitter with Brody Martin, who took the mound for the final inning and struck out two of the three batters he faced.  

Hernando’s record is now 19-4 for the season.
