DeSoto County Veterans Day Closures for Nov. 11
DeSoto County Veterans Day closures will shut county offices, courts, the county animal shelter and the Agri-Ed Center on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2026, according to a holiday notice from DeSoto County government. Veterans Day falls on a Wednesday this year. Residents who need to renew a car tag, file paperwork at the courthouse, or visit a city office may want to plan around the midweek closure.

Trash Pickup and Emergency Services
Both the county and Southaven said garbage collection will stay on its regular schedule, so residents do not need to change their pickup day. Police, fire and EMS will be fully staffed. In an emergency, call 911 as usual.
Election Work Continues on Veterans Day
The holiday does not delay the final count from the Nov. 3 election. The DeSoto County Election Commission has scheduled its public review and curing of affidavit and provisional ballots for 3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Election Commission building at 2510 Highway 51 South in Hernando. Those ballots could matter in Mississippi’s close U.S. Senate race, which had not been called as of Saturday.
Voters who cast an affidavit ballot because they did not have an acceptable photo ID face an earlier deadline. They must bring their ID to the Circuit Clerk’s office by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 10, before offices close for the holiday.
