Prep baseball

Lewisburg 13, Hernando 10 

Note: The Patriots rallied for the win with eight runs scored in the seventh inning. Easton Fesmire, Sam Richardson, Talon Haley and Caden Nelson all scored twice for Lewisburg. Fesmire had three hits including a double and Richardson had three RBIs. Richardson and Trae Cagle both homered.  Caleb Staggs was the winning pitcher in relief, despite allowing three runs and four hits in 1.1 innings pitched. For Hernando, Luke Romine scored twice and hit safely three times with four runs batted in. Romine hit two home runs and Cade Koczka also homered. Preston Johnson took the pitching loss in relief for the Tigers with four runs allowed on four hits in two innings pitched. Johnson stuck out two.  

DeSoto Central 9, Southaven 6 

Note: DeSoto Central scored four times in the bottom of the six inning to win the game. N Smith scored three times for the Jaguars and Peyton Davis had a pair of hits. Ethan Carter, Connor Simpson, and Austin Avent each drove in a pair of runs.  Cooper Richardson won the game in relief for DeSoto Central, allowing one hit and striking out two in 2.2 innings pitched. For Southaven, Demetrius Smith scored one run, had two hits and drove in three runs. Smith tripled and Stephen Tolbert doubled. Tolbert took the loss in relief with four runs and four hits in 3.2 innings pitched. Tolbert walked six and struck out one.  

Oxford 13, Horn Lake 1 (5 innings)

Note: Dewayne White Jr. scored the Eagles’ only run and singled. Nathaniel Carlize doubled and drove White home.  

Center Hill 9, Amory 7

Note: The Mustangs scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, then held off Amory for the win, despite giving up two runs in the seventh. Avery Rodgers and Hudson Marascuilo each had two hits for Center Hill. Rodgers, Cooper McCool, Houston Green and Whitman Key all doubled in the win.  Kyle Erwin was the winning pitcher in relief for the Mustangs with three runs allowed on seven hits. Erwin walked two and struck out four.  

Prep softball

South Panola 11, DeSoto Central 6

Note: The Lady Tigers clinched the win with three runs in the sixth and two more in the seventh against DeSoto Central.  Londen Armstrong led the Lady Jags’ offense with two runs scored. Five different DeSoto Central batters hit safely twice, with Armstrong and Makayla Jamison each getting doubles.  Jamison and Darby Smith drove in a pair of runs each.   Jamison suffered the pitching loss with seven runs (three earned) allowed in four innings. Jamison struck out four and walked five.  

Northwest Rankin 14, Lewisburg 4 (5 innings)

Note: Northwest Rankin scored twice in the fifth inning to win the game on the 10-run rule.  Leona Klaire Stokes led the Lewisburg offense with a pair of hits and Bailee Davis had two RBIs. Davis tripled and Emma Abrams doubled for the Lady Patriots.  Leah Walker took the loss in the circle for Lewisburg with nine runs allowed on eight hits.. Walker allowed two walks in 2.1 innings pitched.  

SPORTS ETC: The Lake Cormorant boys’ powerlifting team won its third straight team state championship Saturday in Jackson and first time in 6A.
