Saturday sports: Hustle fall to Lakers, Jarreau called up to Grizzlies

The Memphis Hustle (12-15) concluded a six-game road trip with a 122-117 loss to the South Bay Lakers (15-10) in California.

Adonis Arms tied a franchise record for points in a quarter, scoring 22 of his 28 points in the third quarter. Arms also grabbed seven rebounds and dished out five assists. Matthew Hurt contributed 27 points and seven rebounds. Lucas Williamson added 16 points and eight rebounds off the bench. Timmy Allen tallied 16 points and seven rebounds.

Shaquille Harrison scored 17 points in the first quarter, finishing with 33 points and five steals. Jack White totaled 21 points. Harry Giles III finished with 18 points and nine rebounds. Skylar Mays contributed 17 points, eight rebounds and six assists off the bench.

After trailing by 15, the Hustle closed the third quarter on a 21-5 run to take a one-point lead. With Memphis leading 108-106, South Bay scored 10 unanswered points to take an eight-point lead with 2:09 remaining in the game and held off a late Memphis rally to win the game.

Memphis outrebounded the Lakers 51-41, scoring 19 second chance points. South Bay outscored the Hustle 62-52 in the paint. The Lakers scored 22 points off turnovers.

The Hustle return to Landers Center for a five-game homestand starting Friday, March 15, at 7 p.m. against the Oklahoma City Blue.

JARREAU SIGNS 10-DAY CONTRACT WITH GRIZZLIES

The Memphis Grizzlies announced the team signed guard DeJon Jarreau to a 10-day contract as a Call-Up from the NBA G League’s Memphis Hustle. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Jarreau (6-5, 185) has appeared in 24 games (18 starts) for the Hustle during the NBA G League regular season and has averaged 17.6 points, 7.9 rebounds, 7.1 assists and 1.3 steals in 29.7 minutes since he was acquired from the Capital City Go-Go via trade on Dec. 26. He has posted 11 double-doubles (tied for seventh in the NBA G League) and a franchise-record four triple-doubles (second) for the Hustle during the regular season.

The 26-year-old New Orleans native went unselected in the 2021 NBA Draft following his senior year at Houston, where he was named the 2020-21 AAC Defensive Player of the Year. He made one NBA appearance for the Indiana Pacers during the 2021-22 season and has played a total of 65 NBA G League showcase and regular season games for the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, Texas Legends, Go-Go and Hustle.
