Jags, Patriots win at DeSoto County cross country

DeSoto Central and Lewisburg were the team champions in the DeSoto County cross country meet held Saturday morning at Lewisburg High School.  

Five of the eight DeSoto County schools competed in the annual event.  

DeSoto Central won the boys’ team championship with a team score of 40 points, 10 points fewer than second place Hernando with 50. Lewisburg (58), Olive Branch (86) and Center Hill (149) completed the field.   

Lewisburg’s team championship in the girls race came with 24 points to second place Hernando with 51. Center Hill (79), DeSoto Central (91) and Olive Branch (137) wrapped up the field.  

Preston Mundy of Olive Branch was the boys’ individual winner in a time of 15:59.79, followed by Austin Simpson of DeSoto Central in second place with a time of 16:21.58.

The girls’ individual winner was Lewisburg’s Kaydi Blanchard, running the 5,000 meters in a time of 19:11.00, a school record.  Second place went to Kyleigh Carter of Hernando with a time of 19:41.17. 

The top 14 finishers were named to the all-DeSoto County team with the top seven earning first-team honors.
