County schools run at Saltillo cross country meet

Preston Mundy of Olive Branch was the top DeSoto County finisher in the boys 5A-7A division of Saturday’s Saltillo Invitational cross country meet in Saltillo. Mundy, a sophomore, ran the 5,000 meter course in a time of 16:37.30, good for a fourth-place finish in the race. Olive Branch as a team finished in 11th place overall with a team score of 289 points.  

DeSoto Central earned the best team finish from the county with a fourth-place team score of 140. Hernando took sixth with a score of 172, followed by Lewisburg in 10th place at 239 points. Following Olive Branch, Center Hill was 18th with a score of 490. 

Tupelo was the team champion with a score of 49 points.  

On the girls side, Kyleigh Carter of Hernando was the best runner from DeSoto County in the 5A-7A division, taking fourth place overall in a time of 19:36,10. Carter led the Lady Tigers to a fourth-place team finish with a score of 112 points.  Tupelo won the meet with a team score of 64.  

After Hernando, county schools running in the meet included Lewisburg (6th), Center Hill (9th), DeSoto Central (10th), and Olive Branch (16th)
