DeSoto County state track meet results

The Hernando girls finished eighth at the MHSAA 6A state track meet over the weekend at Pearl, the highest finish of a DeSoto County team at the state meet. 

The Lady Tigers finished with a team score of 38 points, behind team champion Clinton, which had 150 points in the meet.  Biloxi finished second with 73 points. 

The Center Hill girls were ninth with a team score of 30 points, followed by Southaven with 20 points. DeSoto Central scored three points for a 22nd place tie with Oak Grove.  

State champions from DeSoto County in the girls’ meet were Hernando junior Jessica Cartwright in the 1,600 meter run (5:19.16). Center Hill senior Kayleigh Prentiss won the high jump (5’7″), and senior Cailyn Williams won the triple jump (37’4″) for Center Hill. 

The top DeSoto County team finish in the boys’ 6A state meet came from DeSoto Central, which finished 13th overall with 21 points. Center Hill was in 18th place with 9.5 points and Lewisburg did score one point in the team standings.  

DeSoto Central senior Jalen Jones won the boys’ 300 meter hurdles (:40.67).
