Hernando Farmers Market, 8 a.m.-1 p.m.
The award-winning Hernando Farmers Market, sponsored by Sky Lake Construction, is back on the historic Courthouse Square on West Commerce Street. The market runs Saturdays from May through October, so only a few dates are left this season. Vendors offer locally grown produce, local milk, pork and pasture-raised eggs, honey, baked goods, canned items, cut flowers and plants, and crafts, along with live music.
Free AARP Shred Event, 8 a.m.-noon
AARP Mississippi is hosting a free document shredding event at Planters Bank, 6463 Getwell Road in Southaven. Shredding is limited to two bags or boxes per person. AARP volunteers will also share Fraud Watch tips on spotting scams and protecting your identity. Read our earlier preview of the shred event.
Tunnel to Towers 5K Run & Walk, 9 a.m.-noon
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation 5K Run and Walk is set for the Hernando Civic Center at Renasant Park, 3800 Robertson Gin Road. The national foundation supports first responders, military members and their families. Registration categories include adults, first responders and military, youth ages 13 to 17, and children 12 and under, according to the Hernando Main Street Chamber of Commerce.
Trunk-or-Treat, 3-6 p.m.
The Hernando Main Street Chamber is also promoting a Toyota trunk-or-treat Saturday afternoon from 3 to 6 p.m., a chance for families to collect candy after the morning 5K. See our roundup of other Southaven trunk-or-treat events this month.
Memphis Tri-State Blues Festival, 6:30 p.m.
The 23rd annual Memphis Tri-State Blues Festival takes the stage Saturday night at the Landers Center, 4560 Venture Drive in Southaven. Tickets are available through the Landers Center. Read our earlier story on the festival lineup.
Sunday, Oct. 18: A Chilly Start, Then Sunshine
Sunday is expected to start in the low 40s, the coldest morning in months, before warming to a sunny high near 71, according to the National Weather Service. That makes it a good afternoon for a fall drive, a walk in a city park, or one of the many pumpkin patches and fall festivals around the Mid-South.
Weekend Weather at a Glance
- Friday night: Breezy, low around 48.
- Saturday: Mostly sunny, high near 65.
- Sunday: Sunny, high near 71 after a low around 43.
