Southaven Trunk or Treat Events Set for Oct. 30 and 31
Families looking for Halloween fun close to home have several new Southaven trunk or treat options on the calendar this year. Three local businesses have posted free events on the Southaven Chamber of Commerce community calendar for Oct. 30 and Halloween day itself, with candy, a bounce house, shaved ice and even free kids’ meals.
Each event runs for two hours and takes place in a parking lot along Goodman Road or Getwell Road, so parents can plan a short stop or make an afternoon of it.
Southaven Trunk or Treat Schedule
- O’Brien Vision Center: Friday, Oct. 30, 6 to 8 p.m., 1890 Goodman Road, Suite 100
- Jimmy Gray Chevrolet: Saturday, Oct. 31, 3 to 5 p.m., 181 Goodman Road East
- Whataburger (Getwell Road): Saturday, Oct. 31, 3 to 5 p.m., 6829 Getwell Road
What Each Event Offers
O’Brien Vision Center will host its trunk or treat on the evening before Halloween. The practice’s flyer lists the date, time and Goodman Road address, and the event is open to the community.
Jimmy Gray Chevrolet is holding its third annual trunk or treat on Halloween afternoon. The dealership says families can expect “trunks of candy,” snow cones and a bouncy house. Its flyer also lists face painting from 3:30 to 5 p.m. and shaved ice. Children are encouraged to come in costume.
At Whataburger on Getwell Road, children 12 and under who arrive dressed in a costume will receive a free kids’ meal, according to the restaurant’s flyer. The offer is dine-in only and valid only at the Getwell Road location. Organizers also plan to name a coloring contest winner during the event, and they ask that guests remove masks when entering the restaurant.
More Halloween Events in Southaven
These business events add to a busy Halloween season in the city. The Southaven Police Department’s annual Trunk or Treat is set for 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at the department’s West Precinct on Highway 51, and Scare on Tanger Square is planned for Oct. 30.
Trunk or treat events let children go car to car for candy in one lit, supervised parking lot, which many parents find easier and safer than going door to door with younger kids. A few tips for a smooth outing:
- Arrive early, since candy at popular events can run out before closing time.
- Choose costumes that let children see clearly and walk safely in a busy parking lot.
- Bring a bag or bucket, and check treats before children eat them.
- Keep an eye on traffic. Goodman Road and Getwell Road are busy corridors, especially on a Saturday afternoon.
Times and details are set by each host and can change, especially if the weather turns bad. Families should check the business’s own social media pages or the Southaven Chamber calendar before heading out.
