Panola County sheriff’s office warns of fake toll notice directing users to suspicious sites

Panola County Sheriff’s Office warned residents in a social media post about a circulating notification that falsely alleges delinquent tolls and directs recipients to suspicious websites, calling the message a “SCAM ALERT.”

The sheriff’s office said Mississippi does not have any toll roads and therefore residents cannot be delinquent or in default for “Failure to Pay Electronic Toll/Toll Evasion.”

The office said staff members clicked a QR code in the message and found it redirected first to “cheapcroptops.com” and then to “ms.sgehs.life.”

The sheriff’s office said the message referenced agencies that do not match state structures, noting DPS does not have a “Traffic Division” and that Hinds County Circuit Court, which the message called “big court,” handles only felony DUIs.

The office urged residents to delete and block the notification.
