Missing boater recovered after multi-agency search in Mississippi

A missing boater was located and recovered after a multi-agency search in Quitman County, Mississippi, the Panola County Water Operations and Dive Team said.

The team said Quitman County requested assistance April 18. Panola County Water Operations and Dive Team members, which include personnel from the Panola County office and the Panola County Sheriff’s Office, coordinated with Mississippi Game and Fish and used local and state agency equipment along with volunteer resources.

After several dives and hours of searching into the night, the team said operations were suspended until the following morning. At daybreak the search resumed with additional resources, the team said, including Mississippi Game and Fish, Tallahatchie EMA and sheriff’s department personnel, Coahoma SAR and Crowder Fire Department.

The team said the victim was located with sonar and recovered by Panola Dive Team divers and members of Mississippi Game and Fish. The Panola County Water Operations and Dive Team thanked the agencies and volunteers involved and offered prayers and condolences to the family, the team said.
