The Panola County Sheriff’s Office said it received information about a citizen who was called by someone identifying himself as “Lt. Woods” and told that he had a warrant for missing jury duty. The office said it does not have a lieutenant by that name and will not call people to tell them they have a warrant for missing jury duty.
The office also said it will never instruct people to pay a fine over the phone and does not accept money for fine payments. According to the office, fine payments are handled by the appropriate court.
