Olive Branch Non-Emergency Line Down Again; 911 Working

The Olive Branch non-emergency line is out of service Saturday night, Oct. 31. The Olive Branch Police Department said in a public service announcement shortly after 9 p.m. that the city’s Emergency Communications phone lines are unavailable. The department said 911 is still working and should be used for any emergency.

The non-emergency number, 662-895-4111, is not working right now. Residents who need to make a police report that is not an emergency are asked to call the Olive Branch Police Department’s main number, 662-892-9400, instead.

Olive Branch Non-Emergency Line: What to Do Now

Here is what police want residents to know while the outage continues:

  • Emergencies: Call 911. Police said 911 service is not affected.
  • Non-emergency reports: Call the police department at 662-892-9400.
  • Do not rely on 662-895-4111 until the city says service has been restored.

The outage comes on Halloween night, when many families are out trick-or-treating and traffic is heavier than usual in neighborhoods. Anyone who sees a crash, a fire, someone hurt, or a crime in progress should call 911 without delay.

Brightspeed Crew En Route

The police department said the phone provider, Brightspeed, has been notified and is on its way. Police did not say what caused the outage or how long it is expected to last. DeSoto County News will update this story when the city reports that the non-emergency line is working again.

Not the First Olive Branch Phone Outage This Fall

Saturday’s problem is the latest in a string of phone outages affecting Olive Branch city lines. The city reported outages on its lines, including the non-emergency number, on Sept. 18, Sept. 27, Sept. 28 and Oct. 26. In the Oct. 26 outage, the city also named Brightspeed as its vendor and said 911 was not affected. In each case, officials directed residents to 911 for emergencies.

City officials have not said publicly whether the repeated outages share a single cause. Neighboring Hernando also lost city phone service on Oct. 27 after a contractor struck a line, though that was a separate incident involving a different provider.

Residents can follow the Olive Branch Police Department and the City of Olive Branch on their official social media pages for updates on when service is restored.
