Garden club helps “Cookies With Santa”

During the month of December, the DeSoto Civic Garden Club has been very busy with many special projects.  One of which was the club’s involvement with The Arc Northwest Mississippi;

an advocacy organization for individuals of all ages that have intellectual and developmental disabilities.  This involvement and celebration of the Christmas spirit was focused on their annual program entitled “Cookies with Santa.”

Lewisburg High School was the setting for the event and featured sensory-friendly activities for about seventy-five students with special needs. This is the fourth year that the DeSoto Civic Garden Club has been associated with the organization.

During the “Cookies with Santa,” celebration, the students participated in stuffing packets of food that was composed of cereal, popcorn, and oatmeal.  These packets will be for students to distribute for the wildlife in their yards.

The DeSoto Civic Garden Club is a member of the National Garden Clubs, Inc., Deep South Garden Clubs, Inc., and The Garden Clubs of Mississippi, Inc., Hills and Delta District.
