County schools receive College Success Awards
Three DeSoto County high schools have been awarded 2021 College Success Awards for their efforts to improve college enrollment rates and retention.
Center Hill, Lewisburg and DeSoto Central high schools are among 48 public high schools in Mississippi and 1,838 schools nationally. Private schools are not eligible to be recognized for this award program.
The College Success Award recognizes and celebrates public high schools around the country that excel in ensuring that students are prepared for college and are able to succeed once they get there, according to GreatSchools.
“The College Success Award is the first award of its kind based on school-level college readiness and postsecondary data, which helps provide a view of how prepared a high school’s graduating seniors were to succeed in college,” according to the Great Schools website. “The Award recognizes high schools whose students enroll in college, are ready for college-level coursework when they get there, and persist through their second year. Research shows students who successfully matriculate through their sophomore year are more likely to complete their degree.”
Center Hill received a 10 out of 10 rating as a top-rated school. Lewisburg and DeSoto Central were both given a 9 out of 10 ranking as an above average school.
