Country and rock singer/rapper Jelly Roll is set to open his Backroad Baptism Tour tonight (Friday) at the BankPlus Amphitheater in Southaven and you expect the area to be crowded and busy.
What should be close to a sell-out at the outdoor venue will be the beginning of Jelly Roll’s 11-week, 44-show nationwide tour. Jelly Roll, real name Jason DeFord, will feature his latest hit album titled “Whitsett Chapel,” which has hit the Top 5 in Billboard’s general, country and rock charts.
The album was released in early June. It debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, No. 3 on the Country albums chart and No. 1 on the Rock albums chart. Tonight’s concert also features Struggle Jennings, Caitlynne Curtis, and Josh Adams Meyers.
The album also spawned the hit “Need a Favor,” which was No. 1 on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs charts and No. 3 on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts. Another single, “Save Me,” featuring Lainey Wilson, is also a chart climber at this time.
The tour is set to end Oct. 14 in Tampa, Florida. Tonight’s concert at the BankPlus Amphitheater starts at 7 p.m. At mid-morning Friday, Ticketmaster reported on its website that some tickets were still available. A clear bag policy is in effect at the BankPlus Amphitheater.
