Bomb squad called after suspicious package found in Southaven. Police request you avoid the area.

Southaven police posted the following shortly before noon on Thursday:

***INCREASED POLICE PRESENCE***

There is an increased police presence in the Goodman/Getwell area and in the area near Snowden.

We appreciate your cooperation in avoiding these areas at this time.

At approximately 11:22, the Southaven Police Department received a complaint in regards to a suspicious package in the area of Goodman Road and Snowden Lane.

Officers and investigators responded to the area and began investigating the complaint.

A suspicious package was located, and the immediate area has been secured and evacuated.

The FBI and Shelby County Bomb Squad are on scene assisting with this investigation.

We ask the public to be patient with this investigation and thank those that have been understanding during this incident. This area will be secured for an undetermined amount of time until we can insure there is no threat to public safety.
