Southaven captain graduates from eight-week National Public Safety Innovation Academy program
Captain Michael Pressgrove of the Southaven Police Department graduated from the National Public Safety Innovation Academy after completing an intensive, eight-week training course, the department said in a post.
The executive-level program, held in Winter Haven, Florida, is designed to prepare law enforcement leaders to move beyond traditional personnel management, according to the department.
Participants received firsthand experience with emerging technology, cybersecurity threats and protocols, crisis response and communication, officer wellness and peer-support systems, and recruitment strategies. The department also said the program included classroom instruction and discussions of real-life cases.
Presentations featured Polk County Sheriff Judd, Dateline’s Chris Hanson and Ryan Montgomery, according to the department’s account. Participants also completed a week of physical training that included a ropes course and took part in hands-on demonstrations of new technology in compliance tools.
The class included representatives from law enforcement agencies across the country, the Southaven Police Department said.
