Shaw Shuts Out Oak Grove to Win Hernando 6A State Championship
Julia Shaw put together possibly her best performance of the year on the biggest stage as the Hernando Lady Tigers took down the Oak Grove Lady Warriors 4-0 to capture the 6A State Championship.
The junior threw a gem in a complete game appearance, allowing no runs on four hits and striking out four.
Hernando took the lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Jaclyn Carter to score Rylee Eyster.
From there on, Hernando truly never allowed Oak Grove to threaten. Shaw’s pitching performance kept the Lady Warrior offense at bay all game, which controlled the game in the middle innings when Hernando also could not add on offensively.
Shaw took it into her own hands in the sixth with an RBI single in the top half of the sixth inning to take a 2-0 lead.
In the seventh, the final dagger came to pass from the Lady Tigers as Emme Muizers notched a two-RBI double to score Eyster and Carter to put Hernando up 4-0 heading into the bottom half of the inning.
Needing only three outs, Shaw polished off her dominant performance and quickly retired Oak Grove’s final shot at a comeback to secure the 6A title for the Lady Tigers.
Hernando finished with nine hits in the contest, and Shaw and Carter lead the way with two each. Eyster accounted for a team-high two runs.
