Another indication that COVID-19 remains a health threat in Mississippi comes in the latest update on cases from the Mississippi State Department of Health, which Tuesday reported an additional 3,240 cases of the virus over the Independence Day holiday weekend.
That brings the total number of COVID-19 cases in Mississippi to 839,997. There was one additional death reported due to the virus for a total of 12,527. The one added death report came on June 29 and was from DeSoto County, which is in a high-risk community level for COVID-19, according to the Centers for Disease Control, or CDC.
As of June 26, DeSoto County had reported 52,935 total cases of coronavirus and 554 deaths.
