Charges dropped against Drew police chief in Southaven shooting incident

Feb. 4, 2025-An attorney for the former police chief in the community of Drew, Mississippi announced Tuesday that charges against Terry Tyler have been dropped and the attorney would be in front of the city council Tuesday evening asking that Tyler be returned to duty as police chief.

Drew is located in Sunflower County about an hour and a half from Southaven.

The case involving Tyler dates back to September 2024, when he was charged with aggravated assault related to a shootout that took place while Tyler was at the Red Hook Cajun Seafood restaurant on Airways Boulevard in Southaven. Tyler was indicted following an investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation.

A confrontation allegedly escalated into gunfire, prompting the examination by the MBI.

Tuesday, attorney Michael Carr forwarded court information stating the charges against Tyler had been dropped. Carr added that would be in front of the Drew City Council Tuesday evening to ask for Tyler’s reinstatement.

Tuesday night, Carr presented his request for reinstatement of Tyler as police chief and for back pay to the City Council in Drew, which decided to take it under advisement for 40 days.
