Body found in Mississippi River

Tunica County authorities report the body of, an as yet unidentified man, was found floating in the Mississippi River Monday afternoon. 

The Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a member of the U.S. Coast Guard working with a crew on the river about 4 p.m. Monday. They reported finding the body near the 687-mile marker on the Tunica County side of the river. 

Tunica deputies were joined by the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Department Search and Rescue team and recovered the body at about 5:20 p.m. The Tunica County coroner declared the man dead at that point.  

The victim has not yet been identified and the body was taken to the Mississippi Crime Lab Medical Examiner’s office in Jackson for identification and to determine the cause of death.
