Hernando High School football coach Steve McCann seemed pleased Friday about the football futures of three senior players recognized for their college signings in February.
The three were outside linebacker/strong safety Josh Humes, defensive back Jerico Smith, and Caleb Thomason, another part of the Tigers’ defense.
Humes signed to play at Northwest Mississippi Community College next season, Smith is headed to Northeast, and Thomason will play at Belhaven University.
McCann knows all three and their football abilities well, having been their defensive coordinator the past eight years before becoming head coach this past season.
“They’ve been great players for us and I’m excited for their next adventure in life,” McCann said. “All three of them had choices and they looked around to check everything out on what was best for them.”
McCann was also impressed with how the three players conducted themselves on and off the field.
“They all played hard and that’s a standard we try to live up to,” McCann said. “They were good examples of how to act, how to treat other people and how to play. Their example of how they lived and how they played was priceless.”
