Football regular season ended for DeSoto County high schools Thursday and the surviving teams knowing where they will be seeded for the first round of the playoffs, set to start Nov. 15.

At Olive Branch, the home Conquistadors knew they had to beat Lake Cormorant and do it by at least five points to have any chance at a post-season spot.

But the visiting Lake Cormorant Gators eliminated that opportunity and ensured a number three seed in the playoffs from Region 1-6A with a solid 28-0 victory over the Quistors.

Lake Cormorant scored a touchdown in each quarter and the Gators’ defense kept the Quistors out of the end zone the entire contest.

The Gators had touchdowns from Tylen Matthews in the first quarter, Jarcoby Hopson in the second quarter, Blake Beal in the third quarter, and an inteception for a score by Ja’shun Adams in the fourth quarter of play.

Lake Cormorant improved to 6-4 overall, 3-2 in region games. Olive Branch finished the season 2-7 overall, 1-4 in the region.

Also Thursday night, Neshoba Central defeated Callaway 33-14 and Ridgeland outscored Vicksburg 42-22. With those results, Ridgeland became the number three seed from Region 2-6A. The Titans will host Lake Cormorant on Friday, Nov. 15 in the first round of the playoffs at Ridgeland.
