Horn Lake’s Latimer Lakes Park will host the first Blue Hope Walk on Saturday, Sept. 26. The family-friendly event aims to raise awareness of prostate cancer during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month. The City of Horn Lake is promoting the walk on its website, and organizers say it’s free to take part.

The event is organized by Cumulus Media Memphis, including 98.1 The Max, and presented by Toyota of Hernando. Southern Urology Network and Zenith Vascular are also listed as sponsors.
A one-mile walk and more
The walk follows a one-mile route that organizers describe as suitable for all fitness levels. Participants can walk in honor of survivors, in memory of loved ones or simply to support the cause.

Latimer Lakes Park is one of Horn Lake’s largest parks, covering about 120 acres. It has walking trails, lakes and open green space, making it a natural fit for a community walk.
Why prostate cancer awareness matters
Organizers point out that about 1 in 8 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is one of the most common cancers among American men, and early detection can make a major difference in treatment options. Health experts encourage men to talk with their doctors about when screening makes sense for them. That’s especially true for men with a family history of the disease and for Black men, who face a higher risk.
Events like the Blue Hope Walk are meant to get families talking about men’s health and to encourage men to schedule checkups they may have been putting off.
