DeSoto County seniors can spend Wednesday morning playing bingo, winning prizes and learning how to protect themselves from scams at the county’s free Senior Safety Bingo Bash: Rodeo Edition. The event runs Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the DeSoto County Agri-Education Center in Nesbit. County officials sent out a reminder on Tuesday.

Cost: Free and open to the community
The bingo games take place in the Agri-Ed Center’s indoor arena, so the weather won’t matter.
Learning to spot scams and stay safe online
The bingo comes with a purpose. Along with the games and prizes, the county says the morning will include free resources and interactive safety demonstrations. The demonstrations are meant to help older residents:
Spot and avoid scams
Protect their money and personal information
Recognize AI-generated content
Use phones and other technology safely
Scammers often target older adults with fake phone calls, texts and emails, including impersonation schemes and “grandparent” scams. As AI-generated voices, photos and videos get more convincing, knowing the warning signs matters more than ever. Families may want to bring an older relative or neighbor who could use a refresher.
A rodeo theme and costume prizes
This edition of the event has a Western theme to match the Agri-Education Center’s arena setting. Cowboy attire is encouraged, and the county says prizes will be awarded for the Best Dressed Cowboy and Best Dressed Cowgirl.
The Rodeo Edition is a follow-up to DeSoto County’s first Senior Safety Bingo Bash, held at the Agri-Education Center on March 25. That event also combined bingo and refreshments with safety tips and information booths for seniors, and county leaders said at the time they hoped to make it a regular event.
