Thursday sports: Baker tosses gem for Patriots

Lewisburg and DeSoto Central baseball teams opened play at the Perfect Game High School Showdown in Hoover, Ala. Thursday and both clubs came away victorious. 

The highlight of the day came from Lewisburg pitcher Cayden Baker, who struck out 10 in a 3-0, seven-inning no-hit victory over Madison Academy, Ala. Baker threw 60 strikes on 93 pitches and walked just four. 

The Patriots scored single runs in each of the second, third, and fourth innings to win the game.  Rightfielder Samuel Richardson doubled and homered to score two runs and drive in another. 

DeSoto Central took a 6-1 victory over Skipperville, Ala. George W. Long. The Jaguars scored five runs in the fourth inning to break the game open.  Colton Coates had two hits for DeSoto Central, including a triple.  Austin Kirkpatrick doubled and had two RBIs. 

Hugh Parsons took the win for DeSoto Central. The lefthander went six innings, allowing one run on four hits and striking out five. Luke Sides threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.
