State qualifiers tabbed at North Half track and field meet
North State track and field action was held in Clinton and Olive Branch for DeSoto County track teams on Saturday and top qualifiers have advanced to the MHSAA State Track Meet, which will be held on May 4 at Pearl High School.
In the 7A North Half boys meet in Clinton on Saturday, DeSoto Central had the highest team finish with a fourth-place standing at 70.5 points. Southaven was sixth (53 points), followed by Lewisburg (24 points) in ninth and Hernando was in 10th place (23 points). Horn Lake scored 16 points for 12th place.
Clinton was the team champion with 153.5 points scored.
The team results for girls included Southaven third (82 points), Hernando seventh (48 points), Lewisburg ninth (31 points), DeSoto Central 10th (22 points), and Horn Lake was in 11th place with 10 points.
Clinton also won the girls’ team title with 199 points.

- Cornelius Bennett (Long jump – 22 feet, 7 inches)

Center Hill High School hosted the 6A North Half meet on Saturday with Ridgeland taking the boys team championship (129.5 points) and South Panola claiming the girls’ team title (129 points). The Olive Branch boys were third with 79 points and Center Hill took eighth place with 53 points. Lake Cormorant was 12th with four points.
Among the girls’ teams, Center Hill took third place with 102 points, Lake Cormorant finished in sixth place with 41 points, and Olive Branch was 12th with 11 points.
