Rangers move to No. 8 in national football poll

Following Saturday’s 26-9 victory at Mississippi Delta, Northwest Mississippi Community College opened this week at No. 8 in the latest “Dirty 30” poll from JCGridiron.com.

Released late Monday afternoon from the Rivals.com affiliated site, the rankings include all NJCAA and CCCAA programs, even those that have postponed their seasons to the spring.

Northwest (3-0) received the second-highest ranking out of all MACCC programs, as defending conference and national champions Mississippi Gulf Coast (3-0) remain at No. 2 nationally.

Hinds checks in at No. 11 in this week’s poll after a 2-1 start to the season, followed closely behind a 3-1 Jones College team at No. 12 overall. Northeast rounds out MACCC representation at No. 23, followed by bubble teams East Central, Copiah-Lincoln, Pearl River and Itawamba.

As has been the case all season, Garden City (Kan.) remains No. 1, followed by Riverside City (Calif.) at No. 3, Lackawanna (Pa.) at No. 4 and Iowa Central at No. 5.

Northwest will look to remain unbeaten on Thursday, as the Rangers travel to Holmes to avenge a close 47-42 loss last season to the Bulldogs. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. in Goodman with live coverage provided on nwccrangers.com/watch.
