Postseason football honors released
Post-season honors were recently released for MHSAA Region 1-5A, which includes Center Hill and Lake Cormorant, and TSSAA Division II-AA West Region, which includes Northpoint Christian.
Players from both DeSoto County MHSAA schools share co-Most Valuable Player awards for the fall season in Region 1-5A. They are Lake Cormorant quarterback Telvin Amos and Center Hill running Darryen Hobbs.
Lake Cormorant first-team selections were: wide receiver Jordan Martin; offensive linemen Gabe Cavazos, Mitch Griffin, and Jose Hernandez; kicker Kevin Ruiz Frayle; defensive lineman Jermayne Wheeler; and defensive backs Tony McCray Jr. and Roydetric Harris.
Second-team picks from Lake Cormorant were: running backs Jaiden Gray and Jeremy Hendrickson; offensive lineman Johnnie Barnes; defensive linemen Dalton Raines and Bryson Davis; long snapper Ryder Burns; and defensive back Ferez Tyler.
All-region selections from Center Hill included the following on the first team: Preston Newson, Jaden Payne, Daveion Greelee, and Tucker Henley.
These players from the Mustangs were named to the second team: Daryl Combs, Mark Holmes, Calvin Dockery, and Denver Kiner.
Center Hill honorable mentions were: Dylan Gavrock, Caulen Dunn, Xzavier Paylor, Jason Painter, and Bradley Rogers.
Northpoint Christian School had a number of players named to the TSSAA Division II-AA all-West Region team, including first-team offense selections wide receiver Jackson Thomason, tight end Mitchell Wright, and offensive lineman Chris Gilliland.
Second-team offense picks from Northpoint were wide receiver James Smith and offensive lineman Tyke Floyd.
Second-team defense selections for the Trojans were lineman Sean Giamportone and linebacker Spencer Boling.
Honorable mentions from Northpoint were quarterback Hudson Brown, linebacker Connor McKnatt, and defensive back Peyton Morgan.
